Little Shaun O'Day lived in the western part of Ireland, in Connemara, where fairies abound. So when Shaun disappeared one day it was not surprising that everyone believed he had been stolen away by the leprechauns, who were always looking for little boys to work for them. Even little Eileen believed it—little Eileen, who loved him and felt sorry for him because his parents were dead and his cruel stepmother made him work day and night.
But Shaun wasn't stolen away by the fairies for this is the story of where he really went and what happened to him. When Shaun came back he was a grown man and he married little Eileen who had waited for him so many years. Then comes the story of how Shaun's little son, John, was taken on a marvelous trip over Ireland by a beautiful girl whom he always believed to be a fairy princess.
Along with the story of Shaun and his son, John, run many legends of Old Ireland.
