Store Policies

Price Policy:

The prices we list here are the maximum price you will pay on all in-stock items. We guarantee to stand behind the price listed here, even if we've goofed. However, we reserve the right to adjust our prices as we restock products; this means back-ordered items may be more expensive than our original quote.

We are not a general discount company and do not have a price-match guarantee, but we want to be reasonable and are willing to occasionally adjust prices.

Discount Policy:

For most items, we can generally offer these bulk discounts:

  • 10% off 5-10 copies of one title *
  • 15% off 11-49 copies of one title (usually non-returnable) *
  • Discounts will vary on 50 or more copies of one title

    * these discounts are usually the limit for curriculum; we can generally do better on literature.

    We also offer a growing number of discount bundles. Order a whole set or themed collection and save! (See: Curriculum Bundles and Literature Packages)

Please Note: If a price is in red, we've already discounted the item, and it can't be discounted further, Also, there are a number of companies that request that we not discount their materials. These include (with some exceptions): Singapore Math, Art of Problem Solving/Beast Academy, RightStart Math, DIVE, Veritas Press, Institute for Excellence in Writing, WriteShop, TruthQuest History, Doorposts, Greek N' Stuff, Critical Thinking Press, Circe Institute, Classical Conversations, All About Learning, Audio Memory, Berean Builders, Essentials in Writing, Logic of English and others. 

Security & Privacy Policy:

Our ordering system is secured by GeoTrust: the credit card information submitted to us is encrypted with industry-standard 128-bit SSL encryption. Your credit card is instantly and securely transmitted to our credit card processing company. We do not save your credit card information on our servers. We want you to feel safe in ordering from us! We are also committed to your privacy and the personal information we gather from you will never be sold, leased or rented to anyone. We use your phone number only for contacting you with order problems or at your request; we use our e-mail list for monthly newsletters and rare important alerts; physical mailings are sent rarely—a max of twice a year. We promise not to be annoying!


It's apparent to most everyone by now that Exodus Books is closing on October 20, 2017. Because we are closing our doors and marking all of our products down to clearance prices, we will not accept returns for products purchased September 1st and after. Our normal 30 day return policy applies for purchases before then, though we will not extend the policy beyond 30 days. SALES ARE NOW FINAL.

Special Orders Policy:

Since we are closing our doors and not reordering product as of September 1st, we are unable to fulfill special orders at this time. 

We can special order thousands (if not millions) of items we do not keep in stock. We ask that you be sure of your request, as we do not permit returns on special-ordered items.

Defective items:

We understand you may not discover a book's flaw for a little while, but please call about defective items within 90 days of the purchase. We will issue the appropriate credits or replacements at our expense. We will do our best to cover this policy as long as we are open, but obviously will be unable to do so after we close on October 20.

Incorrect shipments:

If we accidentally send you something you did not order, or we neglect to send something you did order, please let us know immediately. We are committed to standing behind our service, and will credit your store account for postage to send those unwanted items back, or send the missing items at our cost & ASAP! (We reserve the right to choose which shipping method.)

Lost, Missing, or Damaged shipments

Occasionally, packages get lost or damaged in the mail—a frustrating circumstance for everyone! For your protection, we strongly recommend adding insurance to packages shipped with USPS media (our economy option). 

LOST Packages: We will replace or refund insured packages that have been lost but the liability for uninsured packages rests with you. All packages now include a tracking number; our liability for loss ends when the post office states that the package has been delivered.

DAMAGED Packages: We need pictures of the damaged box and contents. If insured and the issue is a mishandled box, we will file a claim with the post office. If the problem is deemed to be improper or inadequate packaging, we will refund or replace at our expense.  

Holds Policy:

Now that all of our used books are online, it's more complicated to put books on hold. We currently treat holds like orders that may be cancelled, and the holds last a max of three days. If you want books held indefinitely, they must be paid for.

Product Samples:

We often get requests for review copies. Unfortunately, we haven't the budget to offer them. The only free samples we can provide are those in digital format found throughout our site. If you need an actual copy for more comprehensive review, please keep in mind our return policy. You can always order an item, review it, and return it within thirty days--it will only cost you the shipping.


We promise to work diligently to ship your order as soon as we can, and are generally able to pack and ship your order on the same or next business day after you order. We are not open Monday, so our shipping days are Tuesday through Friday; if you place your order after 3pm it will usually go in the next shipping day's queue. Our order system will generally let you know if something is out of stock, and give you the option to backorder. If we expect a backordered item to be out of stock for more than 2-3 weeks, we will let you know by e-mail or phone and give you the option to cancel.

The reason our standard shipping costs are so reasonable is our method of shipping, which is usually USPS media or bound printed matter. Although heavy, the U.S. postal service offers special prices for books. For economy, this is wonderful. But there is a drawback to this method. It can take more time: West coast customers will usually receive their order within a week, but East coast customers will generally have to wait about two weeks, and the packages have been known to take even longer. If you need the items faster, please request a speedier shipping method. Recently due to a change in the USPS we are now able to provide tracking numbers for the economy mail option (Hooray!). 

Shipping and handling charges:

Our standard charge in the U.S. (any size!) is $4.95, sent USPS media mail or "best way."

For faster service, you can choose USPS Priority, USPS Express or UPS, but the cost of shipping will increase. We do not offer FedEx shipping at this time.

For international orders, the shipping is calculated by the order form. Unless the shipping is more than $5 different, we will charge that amount. If you prefer an option not listed, please request one in the comment field, and we'll try to acommodate you.


None! The State of Oregon has no sales tax.

Mail Order:

If you would prefer to mail your order we have a Printable Order Form. Use this form to make payment by check or money order. If you are ordering used books, it is imperative to contact us and verify price and reserve your books before you send a check. Overpayments by check will no longer be refunded, but rather left as credit on your account.
