One sunny afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Moses Merrman Mouse and their children, Cheddar, Limburger, and Little Miss Swiss, went for a picnic.

After they had eaten the delectable food—cheese cake for dessert, of course—they sang and danced and danced. When they stopped to catch their breath, they heard a strange sort of snizzing and snoozing sound.

With great caution, they followed the noise through the woods, and found a huge LION, fast asleep. Now if the lion had stayed asleep, this tale would have been quite different! As it was, he awoke with a growl, and things began spinning.

You could never imagine what happened after that, but you'll have a picnic too—a frollicking, rollicking one—when you join the mice (who were Mouses) in their death-defying adventures.

This is a Junior Literary Guild selection, chosen as an outstanding book for boys and girls (P Group).
