In Arthur's court no knight was bolder than Sir Erec. He had fought gallantly for his king and for his lady Enid. But now, when others went forth to hunt or joust, he was content to stay safe at home. And when Arthur called his knights together to set forth on dangerous quest, Erec refused to join them.

What had happened to Erec? His fellow knights mocked him, and even his loyal wife Enid feared he had become a coward. Then one day Erec donned his armor and bade his wife follow him. Together they left the court and rode along a wild and dangerous way in search of adventure.

Their journey was a perilous one, and led at last to the mysterious garden called the Joy of the Court. There Eric proved himself a hero indeed, and won back his high place at Arthur's side.
