Harriet, James, Thelma, and Roger are not like other cats. All four of them were born with beautiful furry wings, and can fly as well as the birds can. But being a flying cat has its disadvantages, as their mother often tells them, for there are some humans who would take them to shows or cage them up. But though they do come in contact with such people, there are also very kind people who help the Catwings, like the two farm children who let the Catwings live in their barn, and the kind old woman who takes care of the Catwing's mother.

There are also plenty of adventures in store for the Catwings, like the time James is attacked by the screech Owl, the day they rescue their little sister Jane, the day they meet Alexander, and the time Jane escapes from a human who had captuered her. Though their lives are filled with constant excitemant, the Catwings are always there for each other and never face their adventures alone. These delightful stories are perfect for reading aloud to young children and make wonderful first chapter books. Though written for younger children, the Catwings quartet will charm all ages of readers.
