A child born in darkness will know nothing of the light. Tenar, chosen to be high priestess to the Powers of the Earth, is essentially erased within the blackness of her existence. Her family, her personlity, even her name are lost within her role as Arha, the Eaten One, the guardian of the Tombs of Atuan. She becomes resigned, and the flame of life flickers inside her. Then comes Ged, a wizard, looking for the Ring of Erreth-Akbe hidden in the Tombs. He is light, and it isn't just the ring he takes with him from that dark place.
