The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

A precursor of the Nancy Drew stories, this volume includes two mysteries that feature young, very amateur detectives and simple problems that will not terrorize young readers. The original hardcover edition carries the distinction of having a frontispiece by Genevieve Foster, author and illustrator of a number of fine historical and biographical works.

  • The Strange Pettingill Puzzle is a story in which Peter and his sister Christine help their playmate, Alan, solve the puzzle of a hidden room that holds the secret of Alan's inheritance. This book is also known as The Riddle of the Lonely House and was republished by Scholastic Book Services in 1963 with illustrations by Charles Beck. This version can be found on Internet Archive.
  • The Curious Case of Callista sends a hobby club hot foot on the trail of the secret that an old-fashioned doll seems to hold. We don't think this book was ever reprinted in another form, and thus know very little about it!
