Learn from a noted naval architect what makes a sailboat go, what makes her good, bad, fast, slow, seaworthy, or dangerous. Then you can decide for yourself.

Ted Brewer has had a long and successful career in yacht design both in the United States and Canada. After graduating from the Westlawn School of Design he began his career with Bill Luders. Later he moved to Maine and started his own design firm there, as well as the now famous Yacht Design Institute. Since 1978 Brewer has based his business in Anacortes, Washington, where he has designed craft – primarily sailboats – ranging in size from 8 feet 6 inches to over 100 feet.

Included among his well-known cruising sail boats are the Brewer 424 the Oceanic 38, 42, and 46; the Verity 40; and the Whitby 55.

Brewer is an active member of the Society of Small Craft Designers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. He is an avid sailor and a frequent contributor to Sail, Cruising World, and other popular boating magazines. Ted Brewer Explains Sailboat Design is his third book.
