If there’s no such thing as a king, why such a fuss? . . .Silence would have helped her to forget, but each protest made her wish all the more: If only there really were a king!

The return of the King is at hand, but the Enchanter holds tight to his power. Hero, once Scarboy, returns to the Enchanted City where the people work in the night and sleep in the night, for the Restoration is coming. The King himself walks throughout the Enchanted City, rescuing orphans, saving the helpless, and working against the power of the Enchanter.

Tales of the Resistance follows Hero as he assists the King in the days of the Resistance. The City Taxi Company delivers people to safety as the King begins to undo the enchantment of the city. But it will take more than just resistance to bring down the Enchanter. It will take a willing sacrifice.

This classic story is allegory in the traditional sense, a story that personifies themes, ideas, and people. It's not a completely one-to-one allegory (nor should it be taken as one), but it is very close in a way that's both intriguing and helpful. The easy writing style makes it excellent for reading aloud.

Each chapter has one full color, full page illustration, and one chapter has a double page one. In addition, there are one or two black and white illustrations in each chapter that are "clipped" from the full color illustration for that chapter. The illustrations are by Jack Stockman, the original illustrator.

Review by Lauren Shearer
Lauren Shearer writes words for fun and profit. She also makes films, but everyone knows you can't make a profit doing that. Her other hobby is consistently volunteering way too much of her time. You can read more of her reviews here.
