The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

From the dust jacket:

For a book that had lived a century, to have as its editor in a skillful abridgment Kate Douglas Wiggin, and as its illustrator N. C. Wyeth, was fortunate indeed. The happy combination has kept this story of the times of Robert the Bruce, of Scottish chiefs, and particularly of Sir William Wallace, alive for almost another half century. Mrs Wiggin speaks of the story as "enchanting, pathetic, breathless in suspense, thrilling in its rapidity of movement and its astonishing wealth of interest." It is all of these.

Written by a "carefully sheltered" young Englishwoman, the book became a spectacular success and the author was frequently greeted in public with the music of the song that seemed to belong to her as well as to Scotland:

"Scots wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
Scots wham Bruce hath often led
Welcome to your gory bed,
Or to victory!"
