A linguistic approach to teaching reading, it organizes the components of the language into a step-by-step series of patterns and coordinated readings—from less complex and regular spelling and phrase patterns to the more irregular spellings and complex sentence structures of standard English. The 5,000 most common English words are included in the readings and exercises so that students can easily understand how to associate spelling with sound and can apply the principles in their own reading.
Teaches short-vowel monosyllables with no consonant clusters. CVC words are most common. Sentences average 3 to 10 words.
