Tintin in the Land of the Soviets

Tintin in the Land of the Soviets

by Herge
Trade Paperback, 141 pages
Price: $14.99

Tintin and his dog are sent to Soviet Russia to report on the condition of life there. After overcoming many obstacles placed in their way by the Soviet authority, Tintin and Snowy reach Moscow where they discover the horrors of Communism.

This was the very first Tintin adventure, published in serial form in the newpaper supplement Le Petit Vingtieme starting on January 10, 1929. It is the most fantastic and least credible of all Tintin's adventures, and although it was published at a rushed pace, it demonstrated much of Herge's flair and some of his attention to detail that would mark the rest of the books for the next 50 years.

Tintin in the Land of Soviets is not of the same caliber of the later adventures and was never redrawn, so it has the original black-and-white illustrations.
