The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. Do you know where Lapland is? Did you know that Laplanders have daylight most of the time because their country is north of the Arctic Circle, and the midnight sun almost never sets? Jay had an older sister who seemed to know everything, and a younger brother who was better at sports, which bothered Jay most when the family went to Lapland. Their father had a grant to study lichens, which was the main food of the great herds of reindeer. The family accompanied the father, and lived in a camper. Jay and Dan and and Cathy became friends with Marja and Heikki in a Lapp village, and were happy that they spoke English and were about the same age. This was when Jay felt most left out because his younger brother learned the Lapp games easily, and was soon lassoing reindeer. One wonderful night everything changed for Jay. He wandered away from the camper, which was strictly forbidden because there were wild animals around, and found a WHITE reindeer caught in barbed wire. A white reindeer is very rare and valuable. They looked into each other's eyes and the deer knew he had a friend who would help him before an animal attacked him. How Jay saved the animal involved danger and great excitement.
