In this story, Henty gives an account of the fierce struggle between Saxon & Dane for supremacy in England, presenting a vivid picture of the misery and ruin to which the country was reduced by the ravages of the sea-wolves. The hero takes part in all the battles fought by King Alfred and is present at the siege of Paris.
