The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

In a little Bohemian village live Marie and Jenik, two young lovers. However, Jenik has no family and no money, so Marie's father, a prosperous farmer, has arranged a marriage for her with the son of Micha, another wealthy farmer. Marie does not agree with her father's choice, and this leads to gay complications, until Marie hears that Jenik has promised to give her up for three hundred gulden, provided that she will marry Micha's son. Marie is angry, and refuses to speak to Jenik until she learns that he too is a son of Micha, and all the parents bless their marriage.

This light-hearted story, with its gay folk music and quaint setting and costumes, is presented here in dramatic narrative with colorful pictures which make a charming little volume to delight all lovers of opera.
