Publisher summary:

It all began because Walter was so lazy. He never got up on time and never had his breakfast until his eleven brothers and sisters were on their way to school. He never got to school on time and he was so slow that he never got home until the family had eaten and all gone to bed. The family got so used to never seeing him that they moved away and forgot to tell him they were going. Walter felt very badly and rather frightened at being forgotten. He started out to find his family and had the most wonderful adventure. He met the frogs and became special friends with three of them. They had never heard of school so Walter started one. He built a cute little house for himself on Mouse Island. He spent the whole winter there and had a lovely time. Then he persuaded Mr. Turtle to take him back to Mouse Village. By this time, of course, Walter was not a bit lazy any more. He was up early in the morning and worked hard all day. So he reached his old school before anyone else. Soon all his brothers and sisters came. They were pleased to see him. They knew he had been away because his bed was always empty. They took him home. His family was pleased to see him. In the summer Walter went back to Mouse Island to see his friends the frogs.
