Assurance is excellent. It is not to be obtained without a great deal of labor and diligence. It is therefore to be lamented that there is so little diligence used for obtaining the assurance of our effectual calling and eternal election, which is of such great concern to every Christian.
The design of this treatise is to awaken men from their security, and to stir them up to give all diligence to make their calling and election sure. Seeing there is such glory prepared for the elect, and such torment for the reprobate, it concerns every Christian to give all diligence to make sure to himself that he shall obtain the one and escape the other. In this book you shall find many practical cases handled of great soul-concern, both for the comfort of those who are sincere and the discovery of those who are unsound.
