RUMIS, meaning "stones" in the ancient language of Quechua is a game of geometric strategy based on the amazing architecture of the Inca. Using irregular blocks of stone in a variety of shapes and sizes, the Inca built monumental architectural marvels that have withstood the test of time. RUMIS requires spatial awareness and critical thinking skills as it challenges players to outbuild and outwit their opponents as they reconstruct historical Inca monuments of a pyramid, tower, stairs, and wall.

Outbuild and outsmart your opponents...one block at a time!

Each player starts with eleven different Rumis 'stones' of one particular color. Then you begin, one stone at a time, playing your stones and blocking your opposition. Everyone is trying to ensure they have the upper-hand, because when nobody can play anymore, the player with the most stones visible from above is the winner! Construction is limited by the shape and height of the building and by the number of players (between 2 & 4). Try to use up all your stones because any left over at the end count against your score!

The game was created in Switzerland by Stefan Kogl and has been a big hit in North America. One of the easiest ways to explain its appeal is to describe it as "3D Tetris". The fun and tactics lie in working out which pieces your opponents have left, and then adjusting your strategy to block them in!

It's also a great game for ganging up on someone.

How to Play Rumis:

(download complete instructions here)

Each player chooses a color. Player 1 places a stone on the game board. Stones must stay within the building plan boundaries.
Rival players must place their first stones so that they touch at least one of their opponent's stones and the game board.
Players continue placing stones, one at a time, on the board. As each stone is placed, it must touch at least one face of the same color, but not extend beyond the plan's height limitations.
The game is over when all stones have been placed or players have no more moves. The player with the most stones visible from above is the winner!

The box, plastic playing pieces, and cardboard playing boards are high quality. Our group of adults played this all day when we first opened it. The variety of boards keeps the game interesting. There are special rules for 2 to 4 players. This will exercise your spatial reasoning skills.
