The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them.  If you need to see photos of the actual book or have questions about the condition, please call or email.

When a little girl in Norway asked Edgar and Ingri d'Aulaire about their visit to Africa, they told her this story of an Oriental rug that might be any Oriental rug come to life.

This one belonged to John's father and John had always liked it for its beautiful pattern and lovely colors. He liked marvels and adventures, too, so that it was not surprising one day when the rug carried him off to its home in Africa.

This book is especially distinguished for its unusual illustrations which are reproduced directly from the artists' own drawings on stone. They are truly Oriental in color and animation so that the story presents an authoritative picture of a foreign country.

During a winter spent in Africa the d'Aulaires made more than 2,000 sketches and paintings, many of them rare glimpses of Arabian life.
