Janis Herbert

Janis Herbert
Janis Herbert, children's author, is fascinated by history and hopes to share her inspiration with children. Herbert, while a longtime reader, never had the notion of becoming a writer until she met the musician Honeyboy Edwards, whose life story so thrilled her that she set out to publish it. Now she explores history with relish, recording her findings for the delight and information of children. Herbert is also interested in giving children ideas to ponder; for instance, her Lewis and Clark for Kids gives a record of the explorers' adventures as well as details on Native American culture and ecology. Her other works include Marco Polo for Kids and The World Don't Owe Me Nothing, as well as books on the civil war, Abraham Lincoln, the American Revolution, and Leonardo da Vinci. Aside from her writing, Herbert enjoys a wide range of activities from hiking and camping to baking and watching films. She lives with her husband in California.
