The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

In this book, Mr. Leyssac has given us an entirely new translation of a number of Hans Christian Andersen's best stories, including many of the short amusing ones which are not as well known as they deserve to be.

Mr. Leyssac—actor, author, and lecturer—is himself a Dane who has made a special study of Andersen. His own love for the stories dates from his childhood, when he listened to them read by his mother, who actually remembers hearing Andersen tell them.

For many years Mr. Leyssac gave recitals of these stories both in Great Britain and America, and he also broadcast many of them. In his recitals and lectures he always stressed the fact that the stories were not written just to amuse children, but were for their elders as well—especially, of course, the satirical stories, such as "It's Perfectly True!"
