The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. Have you ever dreamed of miraculously acquiring a thoroughbred colt and training it to be a champion? If so, you can understand the joy Stephen Slade felt when he found a beautiful colt in his stable one morning.
Stephen realized that the colt had probably escaped from the nearby Albemarle Stables during a fire months before. The misery which he felt as he set out to return the colt was equalled only by his great happiness when Mr. Albemarle, sensing his love for the colt, handed him the papers. Stephen named the horse Hurricane after Hurricane Hill where it had lived with the wild animals.
Hurricane could jump fences of incredible height, for the deer of Hurricane Hill had been his playmates. But he needed training. Stephen, with the help of a famous rider and wise old horseman, patiently taught Hurricane everything he had to know. When Hurricane won his first silver cup, it was to Mrs. Albemarle that Stephen wanted it presented.
"But if you give me the cup, what have you for all your efforts?" she asked.
Stephen's eyes glowed with the wonder of it all. "I have Hurricane," he said.
