Once again, another novel with a great introduction to American history. Trains were an amazing, even scary invention when they first came out. And, like internet providers, railroad companies literally raced to provide the fastest service across the country. This story shows two conglomerate train makers racing to provide coast-to-coast rides before the competition. Our heroine's father works laying track for the trains, and of course she gets caught up in the excitement as the company lets nothing stand in the way of a first place finish.
