Probably the best parts of this series is written by Katherine Lasky. She wrote some of the American Girls books too, I believe. The style is clean, lots of fun anecdotal family scenes with historical details woven seamlessly into the background. This is one of the shorter diaries, highly recommended as a Christmas car trip read-aloud.
