Probably the best parts of this series are written by Katherine Lasky. She wrote some of the American Girls books too, I believe. The style is clean, lots of anecdotal family scenes with historical details woven seamlessly into the background. Of course, being a secular author, she includes a detailed description of the death penalty for heretics in England at the time. It really happened, but this might be a good read-aloud-with-edits for those with younger children. Or just tear out one page and call it good, like I did. Very good historical fiction intro to the early American immigrants.
