Diversity & Multicultural Books

Words often have baggage, and the word "multicultural" is no exception.

One aspect of multiculturalism, as it’s currently understood, is to view it through the lens of oppression, regarding all forms of racism the same (and all Whites as racists).  But this robs children of the opportunity to make fine distinctions and look past labels.  -- from the Redeemed Reader Blog

We've long considered the term multiculturalism a derivative of moral relativism and racism—essentially nothing more than anti-Western culture and anti-capitalism. In that light, you'll understand that we've entirely avoided the idea of promoting it. But that's not a full understanding of the term and we're wrong to see it as such.

We have absolutely nothing against other cultures, per se, and think it's very important for us and our children to be introduced to them.

So, in that sense—very simply as an introduction to the people and cultures around the world—we offer "multicultural books." While there are plenty of books that depict life in France, or Brazil, or South Africa, specifically, those are not the sort of books that you'll find here. All the books contained herein are much more broad, focusing on the wonderful diversity of people...and their food, culture, homes, stories, etc. from around the world.
