Ball for Daisy

Ball for Daisy

by Chris Raschka
Publisher: Schwartz & Wade
Hardcover, 32 pages
Price: $17.99

What Daisy loves most in the world is her red ball. She chases it, catches it, and curls up next to it while sleeping on the couch. But one day her simple life gets turned upside down when another dog plays with her ball—and ruins it! What's a little dog to do?

This adorable wordless picture book is drawn in Chris Raschka's minimalist style. With just a few lines he gives suggestions of shape, movement, and three-dimensional objects, but lets your mind fill in the rest. He's able to convey a lot of emotion in Daisy's face and body language. This book may be too simplistic for older readers, but younger kids will empathize with the little dog's sorrows, and the ending illustration is supremely satisfying.

Review by Lauren Shearer
Lauren Shearer writes words for fun and profit. She also makes films, but everyone knows you can't make a profit doing that. Her other hobby is consistently volunteering way too much of her time. You can read more of her reviews here.
