Deborah Meroff was born on September 3rd, 1948 in Bath, Maine, to William and Lillian Meroff. Although best known for her writing talent, Deborah began her career with library work. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in 1970 from Bob Jones University, Meroff went on to study at the University of Maine. Three years later she completed a Masters in Library Science. After graduation, Deborah found employment at the Auburn Public Library in Maine and was head of circulation from 1973-1976. Meroff worked in several libraries in her home state before moving on to writing as journalist for Operation Mobilization.
Her first historical novel, Coronation of Glory, was published in 1979, while she was still working as a librarian. It tells of the life of Lady Jane Grey, who ruled England for nine days before Mary Tudor took the throne. Meroff's second historical novel, Captain, My Captain, was published six years later, and tells of the brave deeds of the little known Mary Patten, wife of clipper ship captain Joshua Patten.
During her work with Operation Mobilization, Meroff experienced first hand the mighty hand of God in the mission fields of the world. She has recounted her adventures in
Footsteps in the Sea,
Riding the Storm, and
Touch of the Master. Her most recent book,
True Grit, focuses on the brave deeds of many women she has met in her travels.
Currently, Deborah still travels to mission fields and works as an international correspondent for Christianity Today.
