Here are the five all-of-a-kind girls again, in happy and sad times. There is worry about Mama's emergency operation, but the friendship of their Irish neighbors, Mrs. Healey and Grace help them run the household . . . and in the process Ella and Grace become good friends.
Then there is the worry about the War, as Ella's beau, Jules, joins up when the United States enters it in 1917. The other girls are growing up too, with Henny at her first boy-girl party and Sarah's graduating from elementary school.
Jules does come home, and they happily watch the soldiers march in the Victory parade. There is a special miracle too, for Healy's son, Bill, believed to be dead, has been a German prisoner of war and he will be coming home too.
Readers will share all of the ups and downs of this special family as they go through one of the most exciting—and terrible—times in American life and will rejoice with them as they move towards their promising future.
