This is the story of the kind Lappish people who brought their herds of reindeer all the way from Lapland to help the hungry Eskimos in Alaska.

When little Ahlook's father was a boy there had been plenty of fur seal, walrus and whale in Alaska, but now the hunters had to travel far to find food.

Down out of the mountains of Lapland, through a whirling snowstorm to the sea, then across the great Atlantic Ocean and wide America came the Lapps with their reindeer. Little Leif and Ingri found the trip very exciting and when they arrived in Alaska what fun to meet Ahlook who waited with the rest of the villagers to greet their kind new friends.

The Haders' beautiful color pictures help tell this heartwarming story, based on a true event of long ago.
