Red Pawns

Continuing the saga of young Manly Treegate begun in Leopard's Prey, Leonard Wibberley tells the story of Manly's trek to the Northwest in 1811, when the young United States was on the verge of a second war with England.

While his uncle, shipowner Peter Treegate, goes to London to discuss the economic differences between the two countries and present America's grievances, Manly sets out for the frontier. He is followed by his young brother Peter, who like Manly wants to be at the scene of action. The boys join General Harrison's militia as they do battle with Tecumseh's forces—the "red pawns" thought to be the decisive factor in the struggle that became known as the War of 1812.
