The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

This is NOT a book on how to paint, but on how to cope with the hundred and one small and large practical problems and snags which you are likely to encounter before, during (and even after) painting a portrait – and most of which are not covered by the ordinary instruction at art school. . . .

There are plenty of illustrations – line drawings to make clear certain points which are difficult to convey adequately by words alone, miniature reproductions of famous pictures to refresh your memory of them when they are referred to, and 16 full page plates of modern portraits mostly accompanied by a brief personal account by the artist of the special problems he encountered.
