When Libby and her family move out of the city in a covered wagon to a new wild land, they don’t know what to expect. They hope that their life in the new land will be full of promise, but they have a long journey till they get there. There’s plenty of hardship along the way, such as lice, a flooding river, and a lack of funds and supplies. But they make friends with a family called the LaBelles, who help them settle in, and also with the nearby Indians, who give them food when they are low on supplies. As they settle in for the winter, Libby and her family are hopeful for their new future. Just like the oriole who left her nest, new hope will return with spring.
