The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Five children on their Christmas holiday, with fourteen-year-old Laurent in charge, are trapped in a cottage in the mountains by a landslide, and no one knows where they are. They are groggy from escaping gas, it is dark and they don't know what has happened to them. They try to parcel out what little food they can find, but they are interrupted by the addition of two goats, and there is much excitement when one of the girls milks the nanny goat, and they have milk to drink. The only sound is that of the cuckoo clock, which tells them what hour it is. Laurent is badly hurt, but finally figures out how to send a message by morse code by using a mirror when the sun is setting. The rescue of the brave children is very exciting.
