Daniel fills the long winter evenings by carving a duck by the fire. He wants to be a carver like the great Henry Pettigrew. But when he takes his duck to the spring fair everyone laughs at it. Daniel is about to throw his hard work into the river but he is stopped by the great carver himself who assures him that sometimes laughter is the greatest compliment of all.
