Bible Geography and Surveys

The Bible is not a collection of pious thoughts. It is a story; a story filled with names, events, and places. If we try to extract timeless truths from the Scriptures without giving due attention to the history of its people and places we dishonor the Bible and its Author. On the other hand, we honor the Spirit and the Scriptures by giving attention to the real places in which our God has acted in the world.

While not all of us will be able, in our lifetimes, to visit the places in which the events of the Scriptures took place, other resources, like those listed below, can bring us and our children into a greater intimacy with the lands and locations in which our Redemption was promised and performed. The promises of God are yes and Amen in Christ. As we search the maps and eyewitness accounts of those who have traveled to those lands we see the covenant keeping of our Triune God. He actually did what He said. He did it in time. He did it in real and particular places. The study of Bible Geography is therefore an important aspect of our discipleship and growth in the knowledge of the Bible.

Review by C. Hollis Crossman
C. Hollis Crossman used to be a child. Now he's a husband and father who loves church, good food, and weird stuff. He might be a mythical creature, but he's definitely not a centaur. Read more of his reviews here.
