Here are stories about the most famous of the beloved Sunnybank collies, and also stories about other Sunnybank characters—Fritz the chestnut gelding, Jack the frog, the favorite birds, and various pets. Here also is an account of Mr. Terhune's life (taken almost wholly from his autobiography, "To The Best of My Memory").
In his autobiography Terhune wrote: "Soon or late, people are going to grow deathly sick of my everlasting dog stories. Then where shall I be?" Mr. Terhune was never faced with the problem of answering such a question. At the time of his death in 1942 he was still America's best-loved writer of dog stories, with no one even approaching his popularity.
For all those, young and old, who love dogs, we have made this collection of the best of the writings of Albert Payson Terhune. Illustrated with photographs by Margaret Bourke-White of Sunnybank, its dogs, the Master and Mistress, and a colored frontispiece by Marguerite Kirmse.
