"Writing Magic" is an inspiring, playful book, complete with projects and guidelines. If you have a reluctant creative writer, this is an excellent book to try. Gail Carson Levine’s love for writing is contagious and downright fun.

The book focuses on what makes a story a good one, general composition, description, creativity, style, and technique. If you are still struggling with grammar and spelling, you will need some hands-on teaching, but otherwise, the book is well-organized and self-explanatory on its own.

I have taught with this from age 7 through highschool. Older students may object if they believe they are too mature for dwarves and magical potions.
