The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

High on a rocky peak, a black figure stood silhouetted against the silvery moon. It was the brave hunter William Tell keeping watch over his countrymen in the deep-hidden meadow below. These hardy Swiss patriots had gathered silently at night, creeping down the rocky mountain trails or stealing through the dense forests, to plot their revolt from the tyrannical rule of the Austrian emperor.

In the shadow of the snow-clad Alps the Swiss farmers, shepherds, merchants and nobles formed a ring and swore to uphold their country's ancient liberties. And as the early morning sun rose over the mountaintops William Tell raised his famous crossbow to show his friends that his strong right arm as well as his heart was solidly behind their fight for independence.

Most of us think of William Tell simply as the expert archer who shot an apple from his son's head at the command of a cruel Austrian official, but in this book Katharine Scherman tells the entire exciting legend of a national hero who defied the tyranny of a foreign ruler and helped unite the states of Switzerland into a free republic.
