William H. Green

Born in New Jersey in 1825, Green descended from the first president of now Princeton University. A math tutor and adjunct professor at LaFayette College before graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary, Green was ordained in 1848. He pastored the Central Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. For over 49 years, Green was Professor of Biblical and Oriental Literature at Princeton Theological Seminary, declining advancement to Princeton University presidency. As a Hebrew instructor, Green improved upon the existing understanding of Hebrew grammar. Some of his written works include: Moses and the Prophets and The Higher Criticism of the Pentateuch. Green passed away in 1900.
