Historical Setting: 1911 Denmark

Ten-year-old Inge Maria, newly orphaned, has come to live with her grandmother on the tiny island of Bornholm in Denmark. Used to living in more modern Copenhagen, she finds the old-fashioned ways of the island subdued and confining. But as she slowly befriends the residents there, her exuberance for life wins them over.

Think Pippi Longstocking meets Pollyanna meets Anne of Green Gables, with a touch of Hans Christian Andersen thrown in. In turns sad, exuberant, touching, hilarious and sweet. Highly recommended, and great for kids!
