The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

This new addition to the Stories of the Commonwealth series tells the history of the great Dominion of Canada, in area the third largest country in the world. It is written by the Educational Editor of a well-known Canadian publishing house and the colour illustrations have been drawn by B. Biro, the distinguished artist whose drawings in the two earlier books have been so much admired.

The three-and-a-half centuries since Samuel de Champlain helped found the first permanent French colony in Canada have witnessed many exciting events and many great accomplishments, such as the fierce wars wars and rivalries of the Indians, the bravery and achievements of the missionaries, the struggle between the French and the British, the settlement of the United Empire Loyalists, the journeys of Mackenzie and other explorers, the opening up of the prairie provinces, the struggle for Confederation in 1867, and the formation of 'the Mounties'. Later years have seen the Fraser and Yukon gold rushes, the building of the trans-Continental railways, the rapid developments of the twentieth century, the great contributions Canadians made to the Allied Cause in two World Wars.

The author also shows how Canadians live, and have lived throughout the centuries. And, for some, these descriptions will be the most interesting parts of this readable and colourful book.
