J. Steven Wilkins was born in Mobile, Alabama, graduated from the University of Alabama and the Reformed Theological Seminary. He is married to wife Wendy (who does not dance herself but is the daughter of a former ballet dancer with the Metropolitan Opera). He has been blessed with six children (five sons and one daughter) all of whom have been, or are in the process of being, home schooled. Wilkins has pastored the Auburn Avenue Presbyterian Church in Monroe, Louisiana since 1989. He loves the ministry but hates to write (though he has been singularly unsuccessful in his efforts to avoid the latter). He has authored numerous articles and essays and recently completed a book on Robert E. Lee entitled Call of Duty. He is an unreconstructed Southerner who stands for Dixie and can be brought to tears over the thought of his mama's fried chicken, his wife's biscuits, and the battle of Gettysburg.
