Step into Reading

Step into Reading uses bright pictures and big type to make their vocabulary-based readers kid-friendly. We appreciate that they have some truly excellent history books. They also have a few books by Richard Scarry, and some science based books. Be aware that some books in the later levels (such as Pompeii: Buried Alive) could be mildly disturbing to sensitive children.

The Step Into Reading books are divided into different levels, called "steps." Here's how to decide which step your young reader is on:

  • Step 1: Ready to Read
  • Step 2: Reading with Help
  • Step 3: Reading on Your Own
  • Step 4: Reading Paragraphs
  • Step 5: Ready for Chapters

Review by Lauren Shearer
Lauren Shearer writes words for fun and profit. She also makes films, but everyone knows you can't make a profit doing that. Her other hobby is consistently volunteering way too much of her time. You can read more of her reviews here.
