We like the Spelling book but we did do one thing different. We had a recipe box that was divided into A-Z sections. My children were required to take their words for each week and put them in into ABC order. Then they had to put them into the box in ABC order with the words from the previous weeks. It was a useful tool that helped when they all volunteered at the public library.
