Sophie (Udin) Greenspan was National President of the Junior Hadassah of Canada before she went to Palestine in 1938. There she joined the Haganah and became an English announcer on the then illegal Jewish radio, Kol Yisroel. She has also lived in Eritrea (East Africa) and in England. A public school teacher by profession, she has served as teacher and principal in Jewish day and religious schools since 1947, She wrote Westward with Fremont: The Story of Solomon Carvalho (1969), and her writings also include translations from the Hebrew and press and radio writings. She is married, has two grown children, and resides in Los Angeles.
