Sonlight Core B

Sonlight Core B leads kids aged 6-8 deeper in their study of history, literature, and world culture.A Child’s History of the WorldandThe Usborne Book of World Historyform the central texts for the course, and cover the Egyptians, Romans, ancient Europeans, Greeks, and Chinese. Supplementary volumes are colorful and engaging, and include both fiction and nonfiction.

Fiction titles range from classics like Charlotte's Web to more recent hits like Detectives in Togas. While we don't have any problem with the titles for this level, we do find their juxtaposition a bit odd: kids are expected to listen to a fairly advanced biography of George Muller at the same stage they're reading The Cat in the Hat.

We do understand that there are both titles to be read aloud to children and books for them to read on their own included on this list, but there also seems to be a bit of a sense of disproportion. Still, this is a quality reading list that is likely to instill a love of learning in young minds from the earliest ages.

Please Note: Sonlight Curriculum does not sell their materials to Exodus Books. We carry many of the same titles, and are often able to obtain used copies of books they publish. The following is culled from their 2013website and includes much of their selection, though it is not comprehensive, nor is it in any sort of curricular order. For a complete listing, visit the Sonlight Curriculum website.
