Charlie Scott tells the gang that he has a great idea for the summer—building a clubhouse in the lot behind his house! All it takes is some scrap lumber, used nails, and old tools.
At first it look like Charlie has everything that anybody needs; then his Aunt Essie comes for a long visit. She has plans of her own, and a clubhouse for Charlie and his friends doesn't fit in with any of them.
