Sally M. Walker lives in DeKalb, Illinois, and has written more than 30 nonfiction books for children, including the award-winning Earthquakes, Fossil Fish Found Alive, Dolphins, and Sea Horses. Many of her books deal with unusual subjects: a sack of English pennies and a goose; a lost submarine and her long-dead crew; a strange fish called the coelacanth. Says Walker "I enjoy finding odd snippets of information that get children 'turned on' to science. Ms. Walker is packed with personal anecdotes and humor, and she searches out true tales in graveyards, zoos, the Shedd Aquarium, back rooms of museums, and in dusty archives.
