The full subtitle of this book is: "Being the Lives of the Pilgrim Fathers and their Families, with Their Friends and Foes, and an Account of Their Posthumous Wanderings in Limbo, Their Final Resurrection and Rise to Glory, and the the Strange Pilgrimages of Plymouth Rock".
The author claims in his preface that much has been written about the small band of pilgrims—more perhapsthan any other group in American history—yet they are still extravagantly praised for accomplishing what they never attempted, and even more foolishly abused for possessing attitudes and attributes quite foreign to them. He is making the case that the Pilgrims are often confused with the Puritans, who settled to the north in Boston Bay, and believes that the Pilgrims should be allowed to tell their own story, as far as possible, in their own words. Drawing from their letters, this book chronicles the lives of the Pilgrim settlers.
